About Us

What HOMEOWNER.wiki is

HOMEOWNER.wiki is an independent guide for US homeowners. We publish answer-first articles on the money side of owning a home: what repairs and services really cost, how home warranties and insurance claims work, what your rights are in a dispute with a contractor, neighbor or HOA, how to get out of a timeshare, how to finance improvements, what to do when the mortgage gets hard, and how to cut the bills that come with a house.

How we research

  • Cost figures come from national contractor pricing surveys, manufacturer and trade-association guidance and permit-office fee schedules. We publish ranges, not single numbers, and say when a figure is a national average.
  • Legal, insurance and finance topics are written from primary sources: state statutes, regulator guidance from the FTC, CFPB, HUD and state insurance departments, IRS publications and published policy language. Laws and contract terms vary by state and provider, and every article says so.
  • Energy and efficiency guidance follows the US Department of Energy, EPA and ENERGY STAR programs.
  • Each guide ends with the sources we used and a short FAQ.

Editorial standards

  • We do not rank or recommend specific companies for pay. Brands appear only as neutral examples.
  • Articles carry a publish date and are reviewed on a schedule: cost guides at least twice a year, legal and finance guides when the underlying rules change.
  • If you spot an error, tell us through the contact page. We correct the article and note the change.
  • Nothing here is legal, financial, tax or insurance advice. For decisions with money or liability on the line, talk to a licensed professional in your state.

How the site is funded

HOMEOWNER.wiki makes money from display advertising (Google AdSense) and, in some articles, from referral links to service providers: if you click through and sign up, we may be paid by the provider at no cost to you. Those relationships never change what we write or which options we present first.

Who is behind the site

Every guide is published by the Homeowner.wiki Editorial Team. We are an independent publisher, not a contractor, insurer, lender or agency. How articles are researched, sourced, updated and corrected is in our editorial policy.

Who it is for

Homeowners and buyers who want a plain-English answer and a realistic cost range before they call a contractor, file an insurance claim or sign a loan.
