How to Create an Ideal Home Office Environment, If You Don’t Have a Home Office
1. Find a place to sit and place your laptop
This seems like a no-brainer, but if you don’t have a designated place to set up your office, then working from home can be quite a challenge. While it may be tempting to camp and work from your couch, it’s not the most practical or productive setup … especially if your couch is right next to your TV!
2. Use unused space
Think out of the box! Perhaps you have space under stairs, an entrance or hallway, or even a blank wall. All of these would be great places to set up an office area or transform what is already there into something new.
3. Use the furniture you have
If you don’t have a desk, don’t worry! There are many options for using the pieces you already have at home. Transform your end tables or accent dresser into a makeshift desk, or even turn your dining table into a comfortable office space. For seating options, use an ottoman, accent chair, bar stool, or even a yoga ball. This is also a great time to try the standing desk practice you’ve been thinking about.
4. Separation
This is key to creating a productive work environment at home. Whether you need to distance yourself from the television or your children, having a small separation will allow you to focus all your attention on your work. Try creating a small office nook in the corner of your bedroom, a guest room, or an area of your living room that is further away from the action.
5. Organization
Like any space in your home, organization goes hand in hand with staying on track and creating a peaceful environment. Keep your space organized with a mug for your pens and pencils, a journal to match your décor, and a place to put your paperwork. Having a stylish office space not only looks good, it can also help fuel creativity.
